About SAM

SAM (စမ်း) is a cultural platform for everyone to explore, experience, and celebrate art, heritage, and new ideas.

What SAM Is

SAM (စမ်း) is a cultural platform for everyone to explore, experience, and celebrate art, heritage, and new ideas.

We create opportunities for people to explore culture, learn new skills, develop creativity, and connect through shared experiences.

Through programs, workshops, performances, cultural journeys, stories, and community activities, SAM creates spaces where people can experience culture in meaningful and engaging ways.

The original name "SAM" and distinctive visual identity were created by illustrator AhHtet, whose artwork captures the joyful spirit of our mission.

SAM and Saunggauk Academy

SAM (စမ်း) is an initiative of Saunggauk Academy.

While Saunggauk Academy focuses on structured music education and professional learning, SAM provides a broader space to explore art, heritage, creativity, and new ideas through programs, events, stories, and community experiences.

Together, Saunggauk Academy and SAM create opportunities for people to learn, experience, appreciate, and engage with Burmese cultural traditions in new ways.

How SAM Works

Led by Saunggauk Academy, SAM creates free cultural programs where people can explore, learn, create, and share.

Free Programs, Open to Everyone

SAM offers free ways to experience culture through Saung Gauk classes, Burmese Music Camp, traditional singing, and future creative and cultural programs. No previous experience is needed to begin.

Learning with Teachers and Each Other

SAM connects learners with teachers, artists, families, and fellow participants through guided classes, shared listening, practice, conversation, and hands-on activities. Learning a skill is part of building connection, too.

A Place to Explore and Create

SAM programs make room to try something unfamiliar, ask questions, make things, share ideas, and discover a personal relationship with culture and creativity.

Made Possible by Donations

SAM’s programs are free for participants. At this stage, donations make that possible—helping support learning activities, materials, cultural experiences, and wider access for people who want to take part.
